Web Hosting : What is it?

Written on March 24, 2008 by admin

A web hosting service allows subscribers for instance, business, governments, organisations or individuals posting their web contents and pages on the internet either free of charge or with service charge. They also allow monthly broadband subscribers or dial ups to gain access to the internet.

The providers utilise hosting and client architecture for customers to load content to the server, thus web pages and information can be viewed on the internet using web browsers in its original HTML format.

After subscription, customers will gain access to a server provided by the web hosting providers and hence to their clients’ contents on the WWW or World Wide Web through their preferred URL or domain name. Viewers and contents makers are able to view their web contents by using web browsers, for instance Mozilla Firefox, Maxathon or Internet Explorer.

Web sites are pages stored on a computer server. The server is a part of a network of computers on the internet or World Wide Web that allows users or clients to reach your site anywhere in the world at anytime. The internet is available 24 hours, seven days a week and uninterrupted.

Host computers will allow your access when they receive correct URL or domain name. The address will use a pointer routine (look for the address from terminal to terminal) until it reaches the computer that hosts your web-site. If there is no technical faulty, your web site should display itself on the users screen.

In most case, hosting providers require their clients to buy preferred URL or domain name before purchasing hosting services. However, some don’t. Most hosting providers have a package that will allow customer to buy the domain name and web hosting at the same time.
